1. What is chexsystems? Chexsystems is a credit reporting agency. Chexsystems Inc. is comprised of member Financial Institutions that regularly contribute information on mishandled checking and savings accounts to a central location. ChexSystems shares this information among member institutions to help them assess the risk of opening new accounts. ChexSystems only shares information with the member institutions and does not decide on new account openings.

2. Where can I get a copy of my report at? Under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act (FACTA) amendments to the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), you are entitled to a free copy of your consumer report, at your request, once every 12 months.

3. How long will I be reported to Chexsystems? Each report submitted to ChexSystems remains on file for five years, unless the source of the information requests its removal or ChexSystems becomes obligated to remove it under applicable law.

4. My account was paid in full, why was it not removed? A reporting bank or member is under no obligation to remove an accurate report of account mishandling due to payment of monies owed. However, the bank or member is obligated to update the report with a paid in full or settled in full date when applicable.

5. Is there a way to be removed from chexsystems? Even though there is no guarantee for removal many are removed by filing a dispute.

6. Are there any local banks that do not use chexsystems? Yes there are many banks and credit unions that do not use chexsystems. Options depend on where you live and the severity of your report.

7. If I can not find a local bank, are there any other options for me? yes there are nationwide banks that approve those reported to chexsystems regardless of where you may live.

8. If a bank or credit union does not use chexsystems, what will they use? Some banks and credit unions use telecheck, EWS or a credit report instead of using chexsystems.

11. Are there banks that open and close accounts later? Yes there are banks that will open account and close them at a later time if they find out that you have been reported to chexsystems, telecheck, or EWS. There are some people that have had accounts closed simply from ordering checks

12. Does the help that this web site provides cost any money? No it does not. I have been helping those reported to chexsystems from over 8 years now. There are sites online that charge a great deal of money to provide the same information that you can get here for free. There are some that will sell bad information and others that are just scams. I do appreciate any small donation that can be made to my favorite charity called Old Friends Retirement for Thoroughbreds.
