Non-Chexsystems Business Accounts

Small businesses are a huge growing number of those now being reported to chexsystems for " fraud". We see small businesses that will accept checks from their customers and if the check for any reason does not clear, the banks will blame the person that deposited the check.

A growing number of banks are now blaming small businesses for these bad checks and closing their accounts, reporting them to chexsystems and worse, reporting them for "suspected fraud or fraud"

Never accept checks from individuals you don't know.  If there is not an established business or personal relationship, you are taking a huge risk. are a huge growing number of those now being reported to chexsystems for " fraud". Legally, the account owner is bound by the agreement that was signed when the account was opened.  Most standard agreements indicate the primary account holder is responsible for deposits and will maintain the account in a positive status.

We know that looking for a business account can be very difficult once you are reported to chexsystems. We have found several banks and credit unions that will open accounts for those reported. Many of the local banks that we have found also offer business checking. you can get this information with my local lists

    Where do you start?
    1. my local lists - If there is a bank in the area that you live in that doesn't use chexsystems and does offer business checking, then this might be the best option for you in my opinion.
    2. my forum- on my forum there is an area that is specifically for business checking where many people have talked about what has worked for them.

Do banks that use chexsystems approve those reported for business checking accounts when they deny the same person for a personal account" ?
Yes sometimes this is the case if the business itself has NOT been reported. and the business is an LLC or Corporation.

Here is some of what has been said to give you an idea of what I mean. There is more on my forum but this is what was said by some:

I set up a new business account with Bank of America. All you need to do is file for a Tax Id number and pick a business name. Bank of America did not run my social, but ran my Tax Id and approved me of a simple business checking account.

    ------------------------------------

Mary, when Bank of America ran the numbers, they ran my EIN through EWS and Chex which of course came back clean. I asked her if they would run my social through anything and she assured me they would not. I told her she would be wasting my time and hers if they did. I opened two accounts today with no problem.

If anything changes I'll let everyone know.

    --------------------------------------------------------------

Bank of the West is awesome. They do run Chex on the LLC, but if it's a new LLC you will have no problem. If your current LLC has issues, create a new one.

    ------------------------

Contacted Bank of the West yesterday. The business must be formed in tha same state you are opening the account in.

    --------------------

Took my inc. docs to the Dominicks Instore Chase Branch and walked out with a business checking and high yield business savings account.

The branch manager also stated that there not running ews or chex on business signers smile.gif

    ---------------------------------

Fifth Third Bank will open an account for a business with a LLC entity. They only run the business tax id instead of the social security number of the signer. Since I bank there I asked a personal banker and thought that this information would help someone in need.

    ------------------------------------

    Hi Everyone....

I am pleased to annouce that fifth third bank opened up my business account. I am not a LLC i am just a sole proprietor. They simply asked for my tax id. Faxed a copy of my drivers license and I received an email this morning saying my account was opened. I have 30 days to do my opening deposit, yay!!!!!!! yahoo.gif

NO CHEXSYSTEMS -Anyone can get a Business Savings at

  • Bank of the West is located in the midwest and the western part of the US. They will open a business account so long as it's an llc. they will not check chexsystems. I have three active accounts with them. I also got a check terminal from there so now I make all my deposits at home and the cut off time is 9pm central.

I went into a Bank of the West location. I was told that the LLC is run only for Chexsystem, not the signer.

I opened a new business account with Bank of the West today with no problems and they did ask for my DL number plus SS# and I was worried they would check with chexsystems but i guess they didn't and opened the account with no problem. I have an LLc.

I can confirm they do not run chex on business accounts. I even asked my acct manager who opened the account. I like for business if you do allot of wires and or ACH you can set them up to be all done online so you don’t have to leave home to do them or if you are out of town or something. Have had out bus checking open a couple of months now and no issues

Now remember if you were able to use an EIN to open a business account at a bank that uses chexsystems, there is no guarantee that the account will remain opened. Many never have any problems but others do. This seems especially true for the banks that use EWS (like Bank of America, Chase and Fifth Third Bank) Also be sure to protect your account by only ordering checks from a safe company.
